Finding the best ski/snowboard insurance that is right for you

About to go skiing or snowboarding overseas????!!!! SICK MATE! 🙌 (can you tell I am Aussie? Well I'm not, I am a Kiwi 😛) Get excited mate! 🤙🤙🤙

Just before you head out on your big adventure, you may wanna get yourself covered along with your equipment. Nothing like losing your gear on the plane ride there or ya know... break ya leg 🚑 up in the mountains. I've seen it done before. Actually both instances by the same guy and he swears (literally) by getting travel insurance, and convinced me to get some too.

Sooo...

Trying to find the right company 🏢 to cover you for Skiing and Snowboarding is difficult and takes some 🕒 time. Especially if it's off-piste, backcountry or in the terrain park. I have been doing some research to find the most reliable and more importantly great value 💰 insurance, so you can feel peace of mind when you go on your next adventure to the mountains.

Instead of me showing you 20 different plans 😫 from companies inside and out. I just narrowed it down to the top two I think will be beneficial for you 😎.

Here are the two cheapest and best options I recommend as a traveler/ skier /snowboarder myself:

1. SafetyWing for Snowmads| Includes Ski and Snowboard insurance

What does SafetyWing cover?🤔

As of writing this post, SafetyWing offers insurance for on-piste and marked terrain only. However they are looking to add in an additional extreme sports option in the summer of 2020, which I am (me Tom ✌️) personally excited about. I have been using SafetyWing for almost a year now as it is the most affordable travel insurance with a well-known reputation.

Here is SafetyWing's current disclaimer ⚠️ for skiers and snowboarders:

  • Skiing (only covered for recreational skiing. No cover provided while skiing away from prepared and marked in-bound territories (off-piste) and/or against the advice of the local ski school or local authoritative body)

  • Snowboarding (only covered for recreational snowboarding skiing. No cover provided while skiing away from prepared and marked in-bound territories (off-piste) and/or against the advice of the local ski school or local authoritative body)

If you'd like to find out more about SafetyWing and what they provide be sure to check out thier website here.

Alright so if you are a good 👍 skier/snowboarder you are most probably thinking, well this sucks because I want to be covered off-piste where all the fun is 🥳. I'd agree too. But you gotta understand that SafetyWing is offering incredible value for what it is and is an excellent option for travellers, skiers and snowboarders to get really cheap travel and medical coverage.

Also the likelihood of them bringing in the new extreme sports option will likely make them win 🏆 hands down. However in the mean time, for all the more advanced shred 🏂 monkey's out there, check out option no. 2 👉

2. World Nomad Insurance for Skiers and Snowboarders

What does World Nomads cover?🤔

World Nomads insurance can cover off-piste, terrain parks and heli-skiing. But make sure you double check your plan to make sure it's included.

Here is World Nomads current disclaimer ⚠️ for Skier's and Snowboarders:

  • Skiing and boarding within resorts
  • Cross country skiing on marked trails
  • Terrain parks, heli-skiing & heli-boarding (some plans only, check yours carefully)
  • Snowmobiling, ice skating, snow rafting & more

*All plans are different and may require an upgrade for skiing or snowboarding cover to apply. Conditions and exclusions apply. Read the policy wording carefully to choose the right plan and/or adventure sport option for your trip.

What don't they cover? ⛔

They don't cover professional ski racing or freestyle, you will need to get special insurance for this.

They may or may not include backcountry / touring depending on your country or situation. Make sure to get in contact with them about this.

If you'd like to find out more about World Nomads and what they provide be sure to check out there website here.
