Stop what you are doing. The weather gods are finally smiling on the West Coast, and the forecast is looking absolutely all-time. OpenSnow just dropped the numbers for the next 10 days (starting Dec 28, 2025), and my jaw literally hit the floor. We aren't talking a dusting here; we are talking snorkel-required, white room, can't-feel-your-legs deep.
If you've been waiting to burn those sick days, now is the time. The Pacific is sending a massive moisture train right into BC and California. Here is where you need to be to score the goods.
The Top 5 Deepest Forecasts
#1 Shames Mountain, BC – 74″ (188 cm)
Seventy. Four. Inches. Let that sink in for a second. That is nearly two meters of fresh snow! Shames is already a backcountry mecca, but with this system, it’s going to be absolutely nuclear. If you can get up there, you are looking at the trip of a lifetime. Send it!
#2 Eaglecrest, AK – 46″ (117 cm)
Alaska doing Alaska things. Eaglecrest is sitting pretty in the number two spot. When the Panhandle gets hit like this, the terrain opens up in ways that make you feel like a pro in a ski movie. Face shots guaranteed.
#3 (Tie) Kirkwood, CA & Mt. Shasta, CA – 45″ (114 cm)
The 'Wood is legendary for a reason! Tying for third, Kirkwood is known for catching snow and holding it. With a ShredIndex score of 69.4/100, this place is a magnet for the steep and deep crowd. If you're planning to chase this storm, you might want to book your stay now because the lift lines on a powder day here are real—but so worth it.
#5 Bear Valley, CA – 44″ (112 cm)
Just an inch behind Kirkwood, Bear Valley is looking to get absolutely buried. 44 inches is enough to refresh every single line on the mountain.
The Tahoe & Mammoth Crew
Even if you aren't at the top 5, the Sierra is feasting. We're seeing solid numbers across the board:
- Soda Springs: 39″
- Boreal: 38″
- Sugar Bowl: 35″
- Mammoth Mountain: 34″
- Palisades Tahoe: 32″
Anytime you see 30+ inches in the forecast for Tahoe, you know it's going to be a party. Just remember, deep snow means deep snow safety. Tree wells are no joke when it dumps like this. Ride with a buddy and keep an eye on each other.
Also, if you are heading out into 40+ inches of fresh, leave the skinny carving skis in the car. You need floatation. I recommend something like the Atomic Bent 110 to keep you on top of the chop.
