You gotta be kidding me! It is the ultimate good news, bad news situation up in Washington today.
Here’s the deal: Stevens Pass is currently sitting in the dark. The resort announced they will likely remain closed all day Wednesday, January 7, 2026, due to a gnarly power outage. The crew up there is estimating restoration around 6 p.m., which means no face shots for anyone today. Bummer!
The Storm is Delivering the Goods
The timing couldn't be crazier. This outage is hitting smack in the middle of a massive Winter Storm Warning for the Cascades. We are talking about serious accumulation here, folks. The NWS is calling for 2 to 4 FEET of snow through Thursday afternoon. That is not a drill!
Wind gusts are hitting 35 mph, which might explain why the grid gave up the ghost. While the bullwheels aren't turning at Stevens, the snow totals across the region are getting absolutely ridiculous. If you can't ride Stevens, check out what the neighbors are getting:

- Crystal Mountain: 14 inches new. (Base: 16-43 inches)
- White Pass: 11 inches new. (Base: 20-52 inches)

Travel Warning: Don't Be That Guy
If you are planning to chase this storm once the lights flicker back on, keep your head on a swivel. The roads are going to be treacherous. Stevens Pass already has restrictions in place, including daily road closures at 4 p.m., so plan your mission carefully.
If you want to be first in line when they (hopefully) crack things open tomorrow, you might want to book your stay nearby so you aren't fighting the slide-offs on Highway 2 in the morning.
Make sure you confirm the power is actually back on before you load up the truck. And seriously, grab a buddy. With this much new snow, tree wells are going to be a real hazard. It's going to be deep, it's going to be sick, but let's make sure we all make it to apres.
