Freeriding and skiing are about interpreting the terrain you're given. For these athletes, the "terrain" included logistical nightmares, lack of funding, and zero local infrastructure. Getting to the starting gate is their gold medal run.
History shows us that small nations can punch way above their weight class. The Olympic Channel recently highlighted how micro-nations often crush the per-capita medal counts. You don't need a massive population to produce a savage skier; you just need the right mindset and the legs to back it up.
