Dombai

“I hold the skiing trails at Dombai in high regard due to their wide, flat terrain that is perfect for skiers of all levels. However, I found the local attitude to be disappointing. A word of caution to future visitors, some locals may not view you in the best light. While there are indeed pleasant individuals, unfortunately, not everyone shares the same hospitality. During my stay, I experienced some unfortunate incidents. I encountered fraudulent ski instructors and faced an inconvenient situation with our accommodation in Teberda. Despite having paid for the apartment, we were almost evicted prematurely. When we sought assistance from the local authorities, one local declined to assist us citing religious reasons. Thankfully, we managed to resolve the situation ourselves, but the hostess of the apartment continued to send unpleasant messages afterward. Upon moving into the apartment, I found it in a less than satisfactory state. It was dirty and dusty, and personal belongings were left behind by the previous tenants. Despite this, I took it upon myself to clean up the place before and after my stay. Moreover, during my shopping trips, some shopkeepers seemed indifferent or even hostile. On a positive note, the natural beauty of Dombai is undeniable. The mountains and trails are breathtaking and there are friendly locals, albeit limited. Lastly, I would like to mention that my experience in Elbrus was in stark contrast to Dombai. The locals in Elbrus were incredibly welcoming and the overall atmosphere was much more pleasant.”

“I thoroughly enjoyed the natural beauty and fresh air at Dombai; it's simply breathtaking. However, my experience was marred by a malfunctioning lift, and the staff's indifference towards the issue. Additionally, during my travel through Teberda, I encountered individuals in uniform who wrongfully accused me of being intoxicated. I would advise future visitors to remain vigilant.”

“I was truly captivated by Dombai's stunning beauty. The sight of snow-capped mountain peaks surrounding me was truly breathtaking. What's more, the highest point of ascent exceeded 3000m, adding to the overall majestic appeal of the place.”

“I found Dombai to be an excellent destination for those new to skiing. However, I encountered a few challenges during my visit. The second stage of the ski lift is exposed to the elements, which was not particularly comfortable. Additionally, there were intermittent power outages which can leave you stranded on the mountainside until the lift is back in operation. In such circumstances, they resort to using the older Soviet-era lift to get everyone back down the mountain.”
