Lake Songhua Resort

“The climate at Lake Songhua Resort was extremely chilly which added to the authentic winter experience. I greatly enjoyed the unique location of the coffee shop atop the mountain and the quality of the restaurants at the resort was also commendable. However, the snow conditions were not completely to my liking, with the lack of powdery texture and more of a stiff quality. It's important to note that the resort primarily operates through Alipay or WeChat pay, unfortunately, Mastercard or American Express were not acceptable forms of payment.”

“I found the skiing facilities at Lake Songhua Resort to be exceptional, complemented by a courteous and professional staff. The presence of an efficient medical team added to the sense of safety. Given its convenient proximity to the urban area of Jilin, I would strongly suggest a visit to this resort.”

“My recent visit to Lake Songhua Resort was quite an experience. It's a resort that I would rank second only to Changbaishan, having previously visited Beidahu as well. The resort has three main ski runs, a Black down the left, a Green down the middle, and a Green/Blue down the right. These runs are fairly calm, even considering their classification. The resort team ensures the entire mountain is well groomed, which keeps the runs from becoming icy, especially in the morning. However, the temperatures can drop to as low as -20 Celsius at night, making the surfaces icier as the day progresses. As a snowboarder, I found the resort somewhat overpopulated with fellow snowboarders. The lift spots are often filled with them putting on their bindings. The ski etiquette was questionable during my visit, which might be because it was a holiday. I observed people spitting into the snow while in line, and even someone smoking a cigarette while boarding down. The queue management for the gondolas could also use some improvement, as people tended to cut the line as soon as they were allowed through. In terms of scenery, this resort is less picturesque once you reach the top of the mountain. The view includes factories emitting smoke and a layer of smog covering the city, deviating from the typical idyllic nature scene you might expect from such resorts. The ski runs can get quite crowded and narrow until you reach the bottom green section, which is quite spacious. The resort's nearby town exudes local Chinese charm, even if the quality of what it offers is a bit below standard. If you're considering a first-time ski trip in China, I'd suggest Changbaishan for the runs and town, Songhua Lake for its well-groomed runs, and Beidahu if the ski town doesn't matter to you. “My experience at Lake Songhua Resort was simply delightful. This quaint resort boasts modern amenities and an amiable staff. Multiple hotels and apartments are conveniently located at the base, alongside a KFC and a variety of other dining options. The ski trails cater to both beginners and advanced skiers, providing a balanced experience for all. However, if you're seeking off-track trails and double diamond routes, this may not be the place for you. I visited in mid-March and found the snow to be well-maintained. While I can't speak for other times, do prepare for cold and dry snow conditions. The resort is conveniently located an hour's taxi ride from Jilin Downtown. Overall, I would highly recommend Lake Songhua Resort for a skiing adventure in China.”
