Nakasato Kiyotsu Ski Resort is a hidden gem, offering skiers a less crowded alternative to larger, busier resorts. Frequented by boarders, this resort offers a refreshing skiing experience, especially during the New Year holidays when it is relatively less crowded. It boasts one high-speed 4-seater lift and four courses, including the Kiyotsu Bunadaira Rinkan Course, Kiyotsu Bunadaira Course, Kiyotsu Shirakaba Course, and Kiyotsu Karamatsu Course. Each course presents a unique challenge with slopes reaching up to 24 degrees, and lengths surpassing 1000m.
Despite being compact, the resort manages to maintain an uncrowded atmosphere, which in turn facilitates a high turnover rate and ease of navigation. The central house is conveniently located close to the parking lot and the slopes, providing a comfortable hub for skiers. The resort's design allows all four courses to be accessed by one lift, increasing efficiency and reducing wait times.
However, the resort does have its drawbacks. Each course tends to flatten towards the end, making it difficult to reach the lift platform, particularly for those who enjoy carving. This often requires skiers to speed down the final slope to reach the platform. Additionally, a portion of the Kiyotsu Karamatsu Course is obstructed by a pole barn which may impede carving.
Despite minor inconveniences, such as the lack of washlet toilets, the resort offers a unique skiing experience. Its location on the other side of the mountains in the Yuzawa area makes it less crowded even on weekends. Moreover, it is worth mentioning the stunning candlelight and fireworks display on the snowy fields that sets a charming atmosphere during the snowfield carnival. For those seeking solitude and an opportunity to practice their skills, Nakasato Kiyotsu Ski Resort is a desirable destination. The facility is well-maintained, the lifts operate at high speed, and on heavy snow days, one can enjoy uncompacted snow all day long.
