“My first skiing experience at Saint-Lary-Soulan was incredibly disappointing and challenging. Upon arrival, there was no guidance or staff available to assist or direct us to the beginner slopes. We were left on our own to figure out which slopes were suitable for our skill level. We decided to try a green slope at the entrance, assuming it was meant for beginners. However, at the end of this slope, the only exit led to a chairlift. After taking the chairlift, we found ourselves faced with blue and red slopes that were far beyond our ability. When we requested to be taken back down, we were refused and instead encouraged to try the slopes despite our hesitations. As a result, I injured my shoulder, and there was no one around to provide assistance. We had no choice but to walk down on foot, which was risky considering the slippery terrain and fast-moving skiers. This ordeal took us an hour and a half. When we finally reached the second chairlift, our request to be taken down was met with a hostile response. The staff member even insulted us, making us feel like we were in the wrong for making a mistake. After much negotiation, we were finally allowed on the chairlift. Upon getting down, we faced more unpleasantness when we asked about the location of the beginner slopes. Our day resulted in just one green slope completed in four hours, an injury, and a loss of motivation. My neck injury has now prevented me from skiing for the rest of the week we had paid for. The staff seemed to be more interested in having a good time rather than helping guests. The resort lacked compassion, clear instructions for beginners, and seemed to prioritize profit over safety. This unfortunate experience has left a sour taste, and I cannot recommend Saint-Lary-Soulan to anyone.”

“I've been skiing for three decades and have yet to encounter ski area management like the one at Saint-Lary-Soulan. Despite the heavy snowfall, nearly a third of the slopes remained closed. Those that were open hardly seemed maintained, with poor snow work leaving the surfaces in subpar conditions. Even more frustrating was the lack of foresight with evening slope closures. This led to situations where we had to navigate down red slopes in very poor conditions, which included ice and bumps. This was clearly a significant safety risk for less experienced skiers and children, which is simply unacceptable.”

“I am quite fond of the quaint station at Saint-Lary-Soulan and the surrounding beauty is truly captivating. I regret not visiting during the winter season to experience the skiing opportunities.”

“The ski area at Saint-Lary-Soulan could improve in several ways. The number of open slopes is limited and the chairlifts stop operation early, around 4 p.m., which isn't ideal for anyone wanting to maximize their ski time. Long queues at the cable cars can also be frustrating. Moreover, the staff could benefit from being more accommodating, as there have been instances where large groups of people were left without a way to get back to the village, forcing them to rely on shuttle services. The closure times also don't allow for skiers to make a comfortable return from Espiaube to Pla d’adet. Additionally, the resort could be better equipped in terms of snow cannons to ensure optimal skiing conditions.”
