Sundown

“The trails at Sundown are superb, arguably the best in Connecticut considering their size, terrain park, and grooming quality. The lift is conveniently located close to the base, making it easily accessible. Even in March, after a rainfall, the artificial snow base remains impressive, measuring between 10 to 20 inches in most areas.”

“I had a rather disappointing experience with Sundown's customer service. My family and I purchased ski tickets in advance due to previous experiences of sellouts during the pandemic. Unfortunately, one of our children fell ill overnight, preventing us from attending the ski day. We promptly communicated our predicament via email and phone early the next morning, asking if our tickets could be valid for another day. We did not request a refund, but rather hoped that the tickets we had already bought could be used at a later date. Our request was met with refusal and we were not given the opportunity for further discussion. The interaction was not only unhelpful, but also felt cold and dismissive. I had anticipated a more accommodating attitude from Ski Sundown given that our request wouldn't have incurred any extra cost to them. However, the experience left me with the impression that they were no different from the larger, impersonal resorts. Consequently, I'm inclined to take my family and our business to a different facility in the future, and I would advise others to consider doing the same.”

“In comparison to Wilmont and Granite Peak, Sundown is superior, offering a good variety of terrain and a decent terrain park, although it may be challenging for less experienced skiers. However, the ski rental area could benefit from better ventilation, as it has an unpleasant musty odor. The rest of the resort is quite pleasant, scent-wise. In terms of food, it could be improved both in taste and portion size, as it does not match up to what is served at Wilmont. On a brighter note, Sundown offers a unique mid-ski area in the trees with a fire pit, seating, a portable restroom, and a grill area. It can be crowded at times, but offers enough seats for about ten people. Despite being located in the Midwest where there aren't significant hills or snow, Sundown is a commendable ski resort. I'd rate it around a 4.3, it's quite enjoyable.”

“I thoroughly enjoyed the trail riding at Sundown, making for an entertaining adventure. However, the process of scanning tags for the ski lifts seemed somewhat excessive and led to noticeable delays. On the bright side, the staff members were quite affable and accommodating!”
