About Lutsen Mountains

Lutsen · Minnesota

Lutsen Mountains is often regarded as the best ski resort in the Midwest, distinguished by its modern, ultra-fast group chairlifts that quickly transfer skiers to the top of the mountain. The well-maintained runs and ski-up lodges add to its appeal, allowing guests to ski right up to their accommodations. The views from the top of the mountains are unrivaled in the Midwest, offering breathtaking scenery that adds to the overall skiing experience. The high-speed lifts provide easy access to the majority of the terrain, though some visitors have reported inconsistencies with the resort's policy on skiing with backpacks. Despite this, the general consensus is that the minor inconvenience does not deter from the overall experience. Additionally, the resort's parking is comparable to that of larger western resorts, and it's recommended for guests planning multi-day stays to consider on-site accommodations for convenience. One of the key highlights of Lutsen Mountains is the exceptional views it offers. The resort's panoramic vistas are regarded as the best within a 500-mile radius. The resort does not offer night skiing, but it compensates with a wide range of runs, high-quality lifts, and a gondola service to the far hill. During the summer, the resort's appeal does not wane. The gondola service to the mountain top for lunch offers spectacular views of Lake Superior. The alpine slide is a favorite among visitors, offering an exhilarating ride with stunning lake views. Despite a few minor criticisms, including occasional long wait times at the restaurant and limited access to certain areas due to mechanical issues, Lutsen Mountains remains a cherished destination for many. Its magical scenery, friendly staff, and well-groomed runs make it an excellent choice for winter breaks, and even first-time visitors are left with a memorable experience and an eagerness to return.
