Ojiro

“During my visit on February 8th, 2023, it was a mostly rainy day with occasional sun. The slopes were slightly sleet-like but it was more like rain as it melted quickly. The terrain was moist and slippery as expected. On January 7th, 2022, I noticed the parking lot becoming increasingly crowded around 9 am. My visit to the resort on February 26th, 2021, was during a rainy day. The ski slopes were covered in wet snow and sleet. There was a soft feel to the snow due to some fresh snowfall over the compacted snow. The lack of sunlight made it hard to distinguish between compacted and non-compacted areas. The snow turned to rain around 11 o'clock, soaking my gear. Despite being cold and wet, I found the experience enjoyable. I'd caution beginners, though, as the slopes are not very gentle and the staff support is modest compared to other resorts. On February 19th, 2021, I found the snow quality to be excellent in the morning due to a recent cold wave. Despite a larger crowd compared to my previous visit, the lift wait time was never more than 5 minutes. Beginners might find the slopes a bit challenging as they are somewhat steep. During my visit on February 10th, 2021, I enjoyed skiing on the slightly harder and firmer slopes early in the morning. The snow quality was good due to recent snowfall and it was sunny. The slopes got a bit moist as the temperature rose later in the day. I noticed that there were many seniors skiing in the morning and the number of younger skiers and snowboarders increased around 10 o'clock. There was also a small ski training group, which did not cause any inconvenience.”

“I had the pleasure of experiencing the large gondola at Ojiro. In the forecast, it appears that snow is expected around mid-December, which would be ideal for this location. However, one might anticipate some transportation difficulties due to the weather conditions.”

“Ojiro Ski Resort, along with Biwako Valley Hakodateyama, is one of the few ski resorts in Kansai to offer gondolas. The resort's location at the top of the mountain ensures a good amount of snow, while the base may have less. This makes it easily accessible. The staff at Ojiro are warm and kind, and they go out of their way to help children on the lifts, making it a suitable resort for beginners and families. The gondolas and lifts start operating early in the morning, around 8:00 and 8:30 respectively, which is before the arrival of the bus tours. Hence, you'll find many intermediate to advanced skiers here during these hours. Please remember that rental applications are only accepted before boarding the gondola. Children below school age can ride the gondola for free, but to use the Kids Park, an admission ticket is necessary. The resort also offers a dock run. On weekends and holidays, the lines to buy lift tickets can get long between 9 and 10 a.m. so it's advisable to arrive early. Be aware that the parking lot and ticket office get particularly busy on tournament days. For accurate navigation, set your car's GPS to “Ojiro Ski Resort Gondola Boarding Station”, as the road to the slope is closed during winter if you simply select "Ojiro Ski Resort".”
