Shimokura Hachimantai is a quaint, small-sized ski resort nestled in Iwate, offering an array of unique skiing experiences. Despite its size, the resort promises a variety of features and runs, including park and multiple tree areas, which are particularly delightful on a weekday adorned with fresh snow. It is renowned for its clear, uncrowded slopes and impressive tree runs, ideal for those seeking a serene skiing getaway. However, it's important to note that the terrain may not be suitable for complete beginners, with the easiest run designed for those already comfortable slowing themselves on a slope.

The resort boasts three basic chair lifts, including one triple and two doubles, offering an exciting journey to the top. The upper slopes present a thrilling challenge due to their steep and fast nature, ensuring an exhilarating experience for those confident in their skiing abilities. The run from the second lift to the base is an enjoyable one, featuring multiple humps to play on and a section with a long rounded wall.

In terms of amenities, Shimokura Hachimantai offers a good-quality restaurant and ski rental services. Although the ski rental area is small, it maintains a fine selection of equipment to suit various needs. The resort also provides a free shuttle bus service to the Hachimantai ski resort, adding an extra layer of convenience for visitors.

The resort's staff is highly praised for their fantastic service, contributing to the friendly atmosphere of the place. Furthermore, the resort's restaurant delivers large servings and a variety of tasty options, including a highly recommended pork cutlet curry. For coffee lovers, the resort's spring water coffee, noted for its strong acidity, slight bitterness, and rich flavor, is a must-try.

In summary, Shimokura Hachimantai ski resort is a hidden gem in Iwate's ski scene, providing a range of runs and a tranquil atmosphere for intermediate and advanced skiers and snowboarders. While not the most modern, it is well-maintained and offers great value for an unforgettable skiing experience.
