Sportgastein Overview

Sportgastein, the highest skiing area within the Ski Amade, is renowned for its exceptional skiing conditions and panoramic views. The resort, situated approximately 80 minutes from Schladming, boasts an array of meticulously prepared slopes suitable for various levels of skiing proficiency, including free rides. The black S5 is a popular track known for its speed and width, ideal for advanced skiers. The resort's ski lifts are efficient, with an average wait time of about 10 minutes from the mid station.

Late season skiing at Sportgastein offers superior snow quality compared to lower situated slopes. The resort may not have an extensive selection of slopes, but its off-piste area provides an adventurous alternative for experienced skiers. The resort is easily accessible either by ski bus or private vehicles, with a road leading directly to the base station.

Sportgastein also offers breathtaking views of the Gasteiner valley, making it a delightful destination not just for winter sports enthusiasts, but also for nature lovers. When weather conditions are favorable, the resort provides a picturesque vista of the surrounding areas, enhancing the overall skiing experience.

The resort's staff is known for their friendliness and helpfulness, contributing to the resort's warm and welcoming atmosphere. In addition to its winter sports offerings, Sportgastein is also a popular hiking destination, featuring several traditional Austrian cottages offering local cuisine. The National Park within Sportgastein offers various hiking paths, including a route to the stunning Hagener Hütte. The park is also home to freely roaming animals such as cows, goats, and horses, adding to its charm.

Despite the resort having a single lift, it covers a large ski domain, providing ample opportunities for backcountry skiing. However, getting there may require patience during peak hours due to potential overcrowding of transportation. Nonetheless, the beauty and tranquility of Sportgastein, combined with its excellent skiing conditions and friendly staff, make it a must-visit destination for both skiers and nature enthusiasts.
