Himos Übersicht

Himos, a renowned ski resort favored by many, is strategically located within a 3-hour drive from Helsinki or Turku, making it an ideal destination for winter sports enthusiasts. However, the state of the ski slopes has been a point of concern. There have been instances where the slopes were not adequately maintained, leading to a somewhat disappointing ski experience. Nevertheless, the resort has made efforts to address these issues and continues to offer a memorable skiing experience.

The resort is most suited to intermediate and advanced skiers, with a number of challenging red and black slopes. Its artificial snow holds up well even under plus temperatures and hot sun, ensuring skiers can enjoy their activity regardless of the weather conditions. The resort features a large beginners' area with a travelator, numerous snow parks, and a fun-filled kids' entertainment park with toboggan and snow racers, adding to its appeal. The many lifts and short wait times in lift queues are also notable. Despite the lack of warm rooms and common areas for free storage, the resort boasts a large parking area and a simple, functional ski shop.

Himos offers a wide variety of activities all year round, including snowmobile and fatbike rides, cross-country skiing, and concerts and festivals. It's surrounded by a village peppered with rental cottages, with the city of Jämsä nearby offering good-sized grocery stores. Despite its size, the resort is packed with amenities and services, including ample free parking and food options, although the latter is limited mostly to fast food.

The resort's close proximity to Tampere and Helsinki makes it an ideal weekend trip destination. It boasts small hills for beginners, plenty of red and black tracks for experienced winter sports persons, and a jump & fun park. The tracks are illuminated, allowing for skiing long after sunset. The lifts, although some are a bit old, are being replaced with new ones. Despite some minor shortcomings, Himos is a popular choice for family skiing trips and remains the best ski resort closest to Helsinki.
